The focus of this website is to document and share the histories and stories of the Dunagan’s of North Georgia and related families. My quest began years ago, when I ask my dad about his grandfather and his great grandfather. Now almost forty years later, I am still learning about those who came before us, so that those who come after us will know. It has been said that you can not know where you are going if you do not first know from where you came. Laurence Overmire said “Over the course of the millennia, all these ancestors in your tree, generation upon generation, have come down to this moment in time-to give birth to you. There has never been, nor will ever be, another like you. You have been given a tremendous responsibility. You carry the hopes and dreams of all those who have gone before.” So it is here that I hope to make those from whom we came come alive in our hearts and our minds so that they like us will always be remembered.

Darline Dunagan Scruggs
I was born in Hall County Georgia where my ancestors have lived since the late 1790’s. My heritage is rich in histories and stories of my Dunagan ancestors and their related families. Being born and raised here has enriched my knowledge by tales that have been passed on from generation to generation. I have made it my personal quest to gather this knowledge and preserve it for our future generations.

Hello! I’m new to studying my family history! The Dunagans are a part of my family on my fathers grandmother’s side! I’d love to see if you knew anything about them! His great grandparents are Alfred Benton Dunagan and Mary S Darby Dunagan. Any info would be so amazing!
First I love your statement at the top of this page! I am looking for a link to a Mary Dunahan (maybe Dunagan) that was born somewhere in the Shenandoah region of VA Page County around 1794? She married a man name Hedgeman Riley Sr who I also can not find any linage information for. Any insights or nuggets of information for someone who has much more wisdom than I do at this would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Armen Bodour,
I hope this message reaches you. I am a descendent of Hedgeman Riley Sr and have been trying to piece things together. As I type this, I don’t believe he married Mary Dunahan. Or, that’s not her accurate name. Email me, we’ll chat.
I have found a marriage listing in Page County VA for Riley Hedgeman and May Dunahan. But I have yet to find any birth records for either nor been able to make any connections to any of the Riley’s from Frederiksberg or the Riley’s from Eastern Shore. My feelings are that he was from the Riley lines who founded Rileyville, VA, but I have yet to have any luck even in Rileyvilles historical museum, which doesn;t even mentions the very many Rileys for 1700’s. Now Mary Dunahan is a whole another bag of worms. I can find nothing. There is one family of Dunahans in the North Carolina area around that time, but no mention of a Daughter name Mary or a cousin, My feeling on this one is she was a direct immigrant from England. my direct email is armenbodour at gmail

Hi Jim,
Is Racheal one of Joseph Dunagan’s daughters? we have the names of Joseph’s son’s but were not sure of his daughters.
I live in canton and my name is jack dunagan I am related to Ezekiel and if I have my story Right Benjamin Black Dunagan is my grandfather
Jack, I would be interested in knowing how you descend from Benjamin Black Dunagan. I know that Benjamin married Eusaba Floyd, who had a son from a former marriage, named Lee Alexander Floyd. Benjamin considered Lee Alexander to be his son. I have found no record of Benjamin and Eusaba having any additional children. In his will he left everything to his wife Eusaba and upon her death he specified that his estate would go to her son Lee Alexander Floyd and his children. Please let me know what your line of decent is. I welcome all the info and help you can give.
This might be a shot in the dark, but i was browsing the web and came across this page, and my last name is Dunagan. i was always wondering if i might have family i dont know about. maybe we can compare family info and see if we are related! Thank You for your time and hope to hear from you!
Hi Anthony. It is great to hear from you. I would love to compare family info. There are a lot of Dunagans that descended from Joseph Dunagan through his son Ezekiel. Do you know if this is your line?
I would love to share family info with you.
